Construction improvements to the City’s sewer system at four City-owned sewer pump stations are currently ongoing and are being financed by the Massachusetts Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF #4506).
The CWSRF program is administered by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) with joint funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This project consists of upgrading the Beacon Marine, Corliss Avenue, Finch Lane, and Thurston Point Road sewer pump stations. The work includes new fats, oils, and grease (FOG) treatment equipment (Corliss, Finch, Thurston), new supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system equipment (Corliss, Finch, Thurston), electrical, instrumentation and site work improvements (Corliss, Finch, Thurston), and concrete repairs to existing structures (Beacon).
This work will provide necessary upgrades/improvements that are intended to mitigate the impacts of FOG on the City’s sewer collection system and reduce the number of maintenance visits required to keep the pump stations operational. The new FOG treatment systems are specifically designed to combat FOG buildup and will help improve operational performance at these pump stations.
