Dogtown Square
The square was the center of the Commons Settlement and where a cross road is. This was a place that people could bring (or hire others to bring) their cows and sheep to graze.
If you had a cow, then you needed to have a 'cow right' which is similar to having a property right to a house or car in that it says a particular person owns that cow.
The square was close to the house of Jane 'Granny' Day; Granny used her house as a school. Adjacent to Dogtown is a bog called Granny Bog into which animals would stumble into and would not be able to get out.
