
Areas of Service
The Fire Prevention Division provides services including, but not limited to:
- Code compliance inspections
- Complaint investigation
- Fire and arson investigation - Joint investigations involving local, state, and federal agencies as needed
- Permit issuance
- Plan reviews - In conjunction with the Building Department and Third Party Code review when required
- Public fire and first aid education
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation of all activities
The Firefighting Division provides the following services on a 24-hour basis, 7 days per week, 365 days a year:
- Firefighting
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Performing remedial actions at hazardous materials and/or waste incidents
- Providing initial response capabilities to a variety of other emergency situations

- Maintaining appropriate records and documentation of all activities
Emergency Management and Mutual Aid
The Gloucester Fire Department is the lead agency in an integrated Emergency Management system for the City of Gloucester. The Emergency Management Director (EMD) role is part of the responsibilities of the Assistant Fire Chief.
The Gloucester Fire Department participates in a robust mutual aid system managed by the Essex County Fire Chiefs Association and is an active part of the Statewide Fire Mobilization plan with the Fire Chief assigned as the Assistant to Coordinator for State Fire District 5.
