Responsibilities

The Purchasing Department is responsible for issuing all bids and approving all purchase orders relating to acquiring supplies and services for all City and school departments. In addition to writing and executing contracts, we also provide procurement advice and assistance in the preparation and execution of:

  • Evaluations of bids and proposals
  • Invitations for bids
  • Leases
  • Requests for proposals
  • Sales of City properties
  • Quotes

Our Mission

The mission of the Purchasing Department is to obtain all materials, services and facilities required by the City of Gloucester when and where needed at the best reasonable price available through open and fair competition per MGL.
