06/26/03, 07/03/03, & 07/06/03 Cape Ann Dive Team is called upon to perform anti-terrorist underwater search and secure of  landing areas in Gloucester and Salem harbors. This action is to ensure a safe embarkation and disembarkation for the crew members of  the USS Doyle while they enjoy shore leave
 

03/16/03   Report of car beneath the water behind the high school ramp with fresh tire tracks leading into the water. Dive team responded and determined that vehicle had no people in it. Team then aided Tally’s in removal of vehicle.    

08/04/02    Dive team responded to Manchester harbor on mutual aid call from Beverly Fire Dive Team for reported missing diver off of one of the harbor islands. While placing divers in position to search area Coast Guard determined call to be a hoax and cancelled any further response.

10/07/00  Diver surfaced in distress off Lanesville shore. Dive team activated but cancelled by Bay View fire station personnel who recovered diver from shore. Dive Team Leader then asked to review diver’s equipment by DAN (Divers Alert Network) for any indication of equipment failure.

10/12/00  Whale watch vessel returning to Cape Ann Marina reported submerged vehicle in water off of High School boat ramp. Dive team responded and upon determining no persons in vehicle assisted Tally’s in removal of vehicle form water.

06/29/01  Report from resident of house next to Plum Cove beach of divers flag that was among lobster buoys and had not moved for an extended period of time. Resident was fearful that diver had become entangled in lobster gear. Dive team searched entire area around flag and determined that flag had been lost by some dive at another location and had drifted until catching on lobster lines. Environmental police record search of license numbers on flag proved numbers to be false.

04/04/01   Dive Team dispatched to area under A Piat Andrew Bridge to search for suspected suicide victim. After searching immediate area with thermal imaging devices with no success Cape Ann Dive Team formulated joint underwater search plan with State Police Dive Team. While State Police divers and Cape Ann divers were preparing to enter water the victim was recovered by unit from Gloucester Coast Guard.

07/26/02   Dive team activated to Rockport to search for missing and overdue diver. Approximately 2 hour delay from Rockport in team activation. While team setting up for extended area search, victim was found by snorkeler in area.

07/06/01  Homeowner at end of Folly cove road reported unconscious diver at base of cliff. Dive team responded with Bay View Fire Crew and police. Diver recovered and revived by Fire and Environmental police crews. Transported to hospital by FD Rescue Squad. Diver’s equipment examined by Dive Team Leader and tank was found to be empty with tank valve loose possibly causing loss of air.

11/16/99  Called by Gloucester Coast Guard for emergency clearing of propellers of 41 ft surf rescue boat from line and cable that had fouled propellers during winter snowstorm. Upon clearing propellors of entanglement vessel was dispatched to aid commercial fishing vessel in trouble in Ipswich Bay.

10/09/99 Recovered handgun for Gloucester Police Department that was thrown into Mill Pond by suspect accused of threatening wife with weapon in domestic violence incident.

02/09/99  Recovery of contractors generator that fell through ice covering a Lanesville quarry. Rapid response and recovery of generator before gasoline and oil could contaminate pristine quarry.
