Dive Team Members and Bios

Captain/EMT Miles Schlichte-Team Leader, Captain Gloucester Fire Department with 16 years service. Headquarters Station Commander Group 4, Squad Officer FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team based in Beverly, Certified Divemaster. 45 years old and a  lifelong Gloucester resident, married with 3 sons.

Deputy Chief/EMT Phillip Dench-Deputy Chief Gloucester Fire Department with 24 years service, Shift Commander Group 4, two years service, team logistician and communications officer. Brings a  command presence to scene. Lifelong Gloucester resident. Married with 2 grown sons.

Firefighter/EMT Robert Fuller-Gloucester Firefighter for last 8 years. Presently holding top score on promotional list for rank of Captain. Call Firefighter for Town of Hamilton for 5 years prior to moving to city of Gloucester. Certified Rescue Diver. 40 yo married father of a boy and girl.

Firefighter/Paramedic John Bell-Gloucester Firefighter and Paramedic for last five years. Assigned to Rescue Squad  in headquarters. John brings an advanced level of medical care to all dive team incidents. Certified Rescue Diver pursuing Divemaster Certification. Presently also working as ice diving instructor for Lifeguard Systems Inc. Recently married and finding domestic bliss.

Sergeant/EMT Larry Libert-Sergeant for Rockport Police Department with 26 years of service. Served many of those years as the sole public safety diver on Cape Ann. Most experienced diver on team. Certified Rescue Diver with crime scene training.

Provides team with police perspective on dive sites regarding crime scene preservation and proper evidence recovery. Will soon be retiring from Rockport Police Department and will then become a Rockport volunteer Firefighter in order to continue to participate with the Dive Team.

Married for 32 years to his wife Linda.

Lieutenant/EMT Keith Carter- Lieutenant with the Essex Fire Department with 23 years service. Last 11 years at the rank of Lieutenant. Works as a construction supervisor for Zampell Refractory. Certified Rescue Diver. 42 year old married father of 3.

Firefighter/EMT Jim Albani-Firefighter for Town of Essex for last 10 years, Commander in the Naval Reserve, Owner of Anchor Associates-a sales and engineering firm. Certified Rescue Diver. 40 year old married father of one. 

Firefighter/EMT Dan Ball-Firefighter for Town of Essex, Maintenance crew chief for Northwest airlines. Brings mechanical abilities to bear on repairing mechanical issues that develop during an incident. Certified diver working toward Rescue Diver Certification.  40 year old married father of 5 children.

Firefighter/EMT Warren Grant- Firefighter/ Inspector/Mechanic for the town of Manchester with 7 years of service. Mechanic at Ernie’s Garage in Essex. Newest member of the team with 2 years service. Along with Dan Ball, Warren is invaluable in keeping a dive operation moving forward in spite of whatever problems may be encountered. 42 year old married father of 3 children.

Firefighter/EMT Barry Aptt- is presently on a leave from the team as he pursues his paramedic license. Upon his passing of the state exam later this month he will return to the team giving us a second paramedic diver. Barry has eight years of service for the Gloucester fire department and is a married father of two.

Firefighter/EMT Randall Silva- Gloucester Firefighter/EMT for nearly five years. Born and bred in Gloucester, he brings lifetime of boating experience to team. A father of two, Randy is our newest member that we have the pleasure of welcoming to the team.
